Attack on the convoy of all india majlis-e-ittehadul muslimeen president asaduddin owaisi.
Amit Shah to address in Parliament about the attack on Owaisi
On February 3, while returning to Delhi from election-related events in western Uttar Pradesh, Owaisi’s car was fired upon in Hapur.
On Monday, february 7, 2022, union home minister amit shah will make a statement in the rajya sabha and lok sabha about the attack on the convoy of all india majlis-e-ittehadul muslimeen (aimim) president asaduddin owaisi.
Around 10.30 a.m., Shah is expected to give a remark in the Upper House, which he will subsequently repeat in the Lower House around 4 p.m.
It’s worth noting that Owaisi’s car was shot at in Hapur on his way back to Delhi on February 3 after attending election-related events in western Uttar Pradesh. When the event occurred at around 6 p.m., the Lok Sabha MP’s vehicle was near the Chhijarsi toll plaza on the Hapur-Ghaziabad stretch of National Highway 24.
The incident caused no injuries, and Owaisi had urged the Election Commission (EC) to conduct an impartial investigation.
On February 4, the Hyderabad MP was given ‘Z’ category security, but the prominent Muslim leader declined the protection and requested that the government instead make him a ‘A category’ citizen ‘at par’ with everyone.’
“I don’t want security in the Z category. I want to be an A category citizen, just like the rest of you. Why wasn’t the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) used against the people who shot at me? I’d like to live and speak. When the impoverished are safe, my life will be safe. I’m not afraid of the people that shot at my car”. Owaisi said
Police detained two suspects in connection with the shooting of AIMIM head Asaduddin Owaisi shortly after the incident. Both of the suspects were placed in 14-day judicial prison after police forced them to appear in court following their interview.
The first offender was apprehended by authorities on the spot, while the other defendant surrendered at a Ghaziabad police station.
Asaduddin Owaisi, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) head, claimed two days after bullets were fired at his vehicle near the Chhajarsi toll in Uttar Pradesh that the incident was motivated by his criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state and at the Centre. On Thursday, February 3, Owaisi’s vehicle was attacked as he was driving to Delhi after campaigning in Kithaur, Meerut.
The AIMIM chief, speaking at a public assembly, remarked, “Please do not cry if someone succeeds in killing me. In my car, those two people fired four rounds. No one can kill someone that God desires to protect. And I am certain that no one can kill you or hurt you until nature or god decide otherwise. Those who shot at my car were the same guys that assassinated Mahatma Gandhi. Let me tell you, I am not afraid of dying. I’m not afraid of the assailants, and your gunfire can’t silence me.”
Later, during a press conference, the AIMIM president urged Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to examine the attack, as well as the BJP-led Centre to discover “why these kinds of people are becoming radicalised.”
“You make such bold statements. You stated that crime in the state has come to a stop. I’d also like to ask the BJP-led government in the White House to consider why these people are becoming radicalised. If you do not take heed of this, the rule of law will be replaced by the rule of firearms.”
